Breastfeeding is not a choice, its responsibility for every mother to breastfeed the baby. Breast milk is helpful in preventing various illnesses in a baby like anemia, diarrhea, malnutrition, pneumonia, dental problems etc.breast milk should be given to baby immediately after birth or as early as possible, or possibly within  1 hr of birth. 

For the first 3 days, thick yellow milk (Colostrum) is a must for baby as it is high in immunoglobulins and work as immunization. In long term breastfeed babies have more IQ, less chance of obesity, and allergies.breast feeding technique and skill should be taught to mothers. The mother should learn the correct positioning of breastfeeding.

By all means, breast milk is the best milk for babies. There should be exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months of life, thereafter till two years of age, the mother can breastfeed the baby along with complementary foods.

If the mother is working then she may face a problem in feeding the baby. In that case, the mother should learn the manual expression of breast milk and store it properly to be consumed by the baby.  Freshly expressed breast milk can be stored as per need for up to 6 hr to 1 year at different temperatures. 

Breast milk storage at room temperature

Fresh Breast milk can be stored at normal room temperature for up to 6 hr. if the room temperature is warm then transfer the milk to the refrigerator.


Breast milk storage  in an insulated cooler 

Fresh breast milk can be stored in an insulated cooler with ice packs for 24 hr. If milk not used in 24 hr then transfer the milk in the refrigerator.

Breast milk storage in the refrigerator

 Fresh breast milk can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 to 8 days. don't keep milk containers in the door shelf. Keep the milk container in the main back shelf.


Breast milk storage in the freezer

Fresh breast milk can be stored refrigerated freezer for up to 3 to 6 months and in a chest freezer for up to 6 months.Keep in the back of the freezer, not on the door shelf.

How to store milk 

Keep in a steel container, never use the bottle for milk storage.

How to increase breast milk in the mother

1- The lactating mother should take 4 meals apart from breakfast in 24 hr.
2-The lactating mother should eat a variety of food she likes.
3-She should Sleep for 6 hr at least every day.
4-Mother should keep her mind happy, avoids anger and tension.
5- A lactating mother can take calcium tablets according to the doctor's advice.
6-Take 8-10 glass of normal water per day.
